- As we know, the whole country is aware of the fact that Bengaluru, the capital city of Karnataka, generates more than 70% of the state’s revenue. The rapid growth of Bengaluru as the Silicon Valley of India, the startup capital of India, and the most employment-friendly city in the country means that the influx of people here in droves is no fluke or unexpected. Not only from within the state, but also from across the country, people are calling Bengaluru home for the opportunities available to everyone willing to merge here seamlessly. Moreover, the salubrious weather prevalent round the year, the law and order situation, as well as opportunities on offer, make Bengaluru an attractive destination for the enterprising to reach out in big numbers.

- Unsurprisingly, the investors, businessmen, big techs, and wealthy individuals looking to establish an enterprise have viewed Bengaluru as the preferred destination in the last few decades. Little wonder that Karnataka and Bengaluru in particular are considered the top three revenue generators in the country. However, Karnataka’s political churnings were also occupying the news headlines ever since the Grand Old Party made an impactful entry into governance on the back of winning the state assembly polls with a brute majority. The issue that hogged the news headlines was the power tussle between the two tallest state leaders, Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar. The power-sharing arrangements for the chief ministership were in the news right through.

- Thankfully, the party high command has stepped in to douse the same by asking Siddaramaiah to resign. The Congress Legislature has chosen Shivakumar as the next CM, thereby putting an end to the long-drawn-out drama of the power tussle. The moot point to ponder over here is whether the Kanakapura strongman and the CM-elect would ensure the state and the capital progress on the right path to realise the immense potential on offer vis-à-vis development, growth, and brand building. People closely following the fortunes of the CM-elect would nod in agreement that he is a man of words and a go-getter, leaving no stone unturned in ensuring things move in the right direction. And he has less than two years to show he means business.

- Mind you, it’s not an easy task to balance the revenue generation in the state since the five guarantee schemes garner huge budgetary allocations. Apart from this, he also must ensure the delicate caste balancing, a conundrum and labyrinthine, by taking along representatives from diverse socio-economic demographics. Not only that, but he will also have to contend with Siddaramaiah’s loyalists breathing down his neck to ensure initiatives of the immediate predecessor are met, and also accommodate them in the ministerial berths. This is where Shivakumar’s long organizational experience and administrative acumen will come to the fore. Hopefully, he will be able to deliver on expected lines. Bengalureans will anticipate positively.
