- The geopolitical and geostrategic scenario in the last two years has been anything but conducive for the whole world to consider progressing its economic agenda as envisaged. Even as the global community was slowly gathering its battered economies on the back of the debilitating COVID-19 pandemic, the successive conflicts across the world must have come as a big setback. It all started with the Russia-Ukraine war that continued unabated even after four years, with no signs of a ceasefire anytime soon. The Israel-Hamas standoff and the battering of the Gaza Strip by Jerusalem only added to the suffocating cauldron afflicting the world. In between, India and Pakistan were on the verge of a full-blown war following the Pahalgam attack on tourists.

- Of course, the potentially catastrophic war between India and Pakistan was thwarted by the global headmaster Donald Trump’s unwavering efforts at playing peacemaker (pun intended). Trump has claimed credit for stopping several wars from reaching a deadly flashpoint, including the one between the subcontinent rivals. In fact, the advent of Donald Trump as the President of the USA for the second time has vitiated the global political atmosphere so much with his pet tariff war to protect Americans that the whole universe is feeling the consequent heat. The upheavals caused by the tariff war have completely muddied the already cluttered economies, struggling to stay afloat on the back of extremely challenging circumstances all around.

- Unfortunately, the ill-timed, ill-adviced, and illogical US/Israel attack on Iran has happened at the most inopportune time. What was initially thought of as a few-day war has already crossed fifteen days. Even though Iran was inflicted with the precision killings of the supreme leader and other top leadership, Tehran has shown enough verve and tenacity to not only hang around to face the relentless bombardment from the US/Israel but also has counterattacked in a way that has started hurting the whole world. Iran’s attack on the US bases in the neighbouring Gulf countries, producing the world’s biggest gas/oil/petroleum requirements, means the whole world is placed on tenterhooks with an uncertain future staring at us vis-à-vis energy needs. What a mess!

- Even though Trump and Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu have vowed to obliterate Iran’s nuclear capabilities, the reality on the ground is that Tehran continues to show resilience by counterattacking the gas reserves of the Gulf countries, leading to tremendous anxieties around the world. Defying all odds, Tehran has showcased immense fighting capabilities, stretching the hallowed military resources of the US/Israel combo thin. The time is ripe for all the key countries to join hands to exert pressure on the Trump/Netanyahu duo to make every effort to end the mindless war without any further delay. If not, the global community will be reeling under the severe gas and oil shortage that will hit with enormous force. This should happen now.
