- People closely following the fast-evolving geopolitical and geostrategic scenario would have observed how Donald Trump was blatantly craving for the Nobel Peace Prize at every platform and forum. Trump’s unabashed yearning for the Nobel Peace Prize, ostensibly highlighting his imaginary contributions to preventing the ongoing conflicts from escalating further, would have amused the global community no end. For the uninitiated, Trump has been known to express his desire to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for the last few months by bombastically claiming how he single-handedly contributed to stopping some of the most dangerous conflicts. So much so that he has claimed to have stopped the recent India-Pakistan conflict on several occasions.

- This is despite Indian leadership vehemently denying any involvement of Trump in diffusing the conflict, including Operation Sindoor. Of course, by now, the global community is aware of the mercurial nature of Trump, who is becoming increasingly unpredictable. A few hawks and advisers within his close circle are adding fuel to the fire as well. Coming back to the subject matter, unsurprisingly, a few countries with an eye to getting into the good books of the maverick leaders nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. Even the Pakistani regime nominated Trump for the most coveted award. Now that the award has been announced, bestowing upon Venezuela’s Maria Corina Machado, Trump should understand that it’s alright not to get the same.

- To place the Nobel Peace Prize in perspective, nobody, barring a grand total of 143 men and women, has gotten it over the past 125 years. That’s seriously rare, but rarer still is being the US President, which Trump has been twice. Thus, it makes sense for Trump to cheer up. Mind you, war is peace. The converse must be true then – peace is war. Indeed, there were 338 nominees for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize. Hopefully, let’s assume that Trump was indeed in the fray, but we won’t know for 50 more years, because that’s the rule. Suppose Trump weren’t even in the running, the 7, or 70, or 700 wars that he has stopped this year were sheer selfless service then. Come on, feel good about it, Trump. War is indeed peace.

- That’s the reason why Maria got the Nobel Peace Prize, and Trump didn’t. Just looking up at the past winners will reveal that most weren’t present at or behind an armistice. Like God, peace works in mysterious ways. Sometimes, it involves defusing nukes, at others, it means standing up for the rights of women and children. Often, like Machado, it requires fighting for rights and democracy within a country. Also, if it ain’t broke, don’t break it. The US has been a model of democracy, free speech, and the rule of law. It’s advisable not to turn it into a tinpot dictatorship – like Maduro in Venezuela – with executive orders and national guard deployment. Trump will not win any awards for starting a civil war, you. Move on, Donald Trump. Do better things.
