  • The whole world must be greatly concerned with the ongoing Israel-Hamas war that has already resulted in thousands of innocent lives lost, and billions of dollars of livelihoods going down the drain courtesy of incessant bombing and destruction. The global leadership led by the United Nations has been a mute spectator, even as some of the big players like the United States of America continue to support Israel despite knowing that the bombing of Gaza will only result in further killings of innocents. No one in their right senses would support unyielding killings, but what’s happening in the unfortunate lives of Palestinians, despite the global opinion being strongly against the same, starkly exposes the helplessness of the affected lot. It’s an open massacre.

  • The truce efforts undertaken between the two warring factions have been sporadic but have not seen a permanent conclusion drawing a curtain on the conflict at once. The advent of Donald Trump hasn’t signaled anything substantial vis-à-vis the closure of war, offering much-needed succour to the affected people. Little wonder, Gaza can be termed a 21st-century human tragedy. Think about this. Those who can, won’t end the war. Those who wage the war will provide aid. Call it irony or whatever suits. Palestinians in Gaza are protesting against Hamas. Israelis in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem are denouncing Netanyahu’s renewed assault on Gaza since March. After a bloody weekend of bombing, Netanyahu escalated the offensive, vowing to take full control of Gaza.

  • Mind you, the death toll has crossed 50,000. One in five Palestinians is starving. What more tragedy can befall the hapless people? Note that Qatar was part of the ceasefire dealmaking and has said the international community must react to Israel’s escalation, which, per a Qatari minister, will give legitimacy to non-state actors. This is more of the Arab states’ hands-off approach, leaving it to the US to stop the Israel-Hamas war. The Arab world seems to find no major reason to upset smooth bilateral ties with the US, by talking of Washington’s role in regional stability. Hamas is a terror group; little can be expected from it. What stops Washington from stopping fellow democracy Israel’s wildly disproportionate retaliation to Hamas’s Oct 7 terror act? It’s sad.

Trump issues 'last warning' to Hamas over Israeli hostage release

  • Sadly, Trump is content to snatch credit for a pause in fighting. Trump’s return has emboldened Netanyahu, who faces no consequences. Over 3,000 Palestinians are estimated killed since March 18. It’s the hegemony-supported genocide. Encouragingly, sharp reactions from the EU, UK, and Canada against Netanyahu’s weaponizing of food and aid are most welcome. For 80 days and counting, Israel has blockaded food, water, and medicine from entering Gaza. Tel Aviv has decided that the US and Israel-backed aid organization will be the conduit for relief. So, forces driving the offensive will provide aid instead of neutral UN organizations. That’s almost Trumpian. Netanyahu should stop pounding Gaza forthwith. If not, the global leadership should build pressure on him.
