- Indians by nature are religiously inclined people who wish to center their universe by keeping the Gods as the fulcrum of their activities. Of course, India is such a diverse, divergent, and vastly spread country across the length and breadth that every region not only has a distinct entity vis-à-vis dialect/language but also customs and traditions. However, one of the most common aspects witnessed throughout the country is the belief in the almighty, which again could be interpreted differently. Yes, the Constitution confers on the Indian citizens equal rights vis-à-vis caste, creed, class, ethnicity, linguistics, and religious practices. Apart from the same, what also binds us Indians is our profound belief in being glued to our ancient traditions, cultures, heritage, and legacy.

- We are God fearing people with millions of deities dotting the religious landscape, where regular worships are offered. Indeed, Hindus believe and worship innumerable Gods and Goddesses, whereas other religions considered minority communities have one God to take recourse to. Nonetheless, the crux of the article is that most of us have developed a tendency to take umbrage under the omniscient and omnipresent God Almighty whenever we are confronted with challenges of monumental proportions. Yes, it’s a human tendency to seek refuge under God’s all-encompassing benevolence offering solace for those in dire straits. Trust me, most of us would have offered a bribe of various kinds just to receive God’s grace. Has it worked? Belief, you see.

- Look not far from how students become so religiously and spiritually inclined during examinations, indulging in various offerings to seek favorable response. When things are not going our way, the easiest approach available is to completely surrender to the will of God, hoping against hope that some miracle will happen to smoothen our nerves or realise dreams. While we were growing up, following our parents’ penchant for propitiating the Gods to ensure no harm afflicts the family and seeking more comforts by removing potential obstacles, most of us would have fervently prayed for our lives to be free of challenges laden with smooth passage everywhere. As students, we have actively indulged in offering bait and quid-pro-quos when examinations were near.

- The prayers would reach fever-pitch. It’s another matter altogether that God Almighty will only shower blessing on those who make real effort through consistency, persistence, and right attitude. Interestingly, even the political class makes a beeline seeking God’s grace when the elections are nearing. As any Indian citizen will vouch, when it comes to propitiating Gods, political leaders will not mind loosening their purse strings to offer a slew of offerings. Several welfare measures are initiated under the auspices of God benefiting humanity of shall we say, the vote banks. The pull and the fear of God do play a critical role in keeping humankind under check and within the limits of the man-made boundaries. It perfectly suits all, doesn’t it?
