- The Grand Old Party had modest success in the last Lok Sabha polls as compared to the previous two does not mean that the entity has arrived big time on the political firmament. Mind you, the Bharatiya Janata Party still commands a hefty lead over the Congress but the way the Grand Old Party has gone about with an air of authority and a sense of achievement that it makes one wonder who is in the saddle of running the country. We know the results must have come as a shocker to the confident BJP which was aiming to win 400 plus seats. It wasn’t the case, and the opposition ranks did make a considerable dent in the confidence and infallibility of the BJP and its allies considerably. Nonetheless, it did not stop the NDA from forming the government yet again.

- The Congress chose Rahul Gandhi as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha since the party had more numbers in comparison to other opposition parties. We know how Congress persistently makes efforts to launch the leader as the true inheritor of the legacy wishing to make him the prima donna to take on the unquestionable charisma of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rahul keeps committing one gaffe after another with incoherence being a consistent companion, the BJP never has to look around for any issue to target back. People have closely followed how Rahul’s unidimensional berating of the BJP and the PM by repeatedly mentioning the Ambani-Adani nexus appears to have become so stale that many would not be prepared to hear the narrative anymore.

- Unfortunately, the Congress and Rahul appear to have been fixated on the supposed nexus between Ambani-Adani-Modi for such a long time now that it makes imminent sense for some senior Congressmen to advice the scion to move on with so many other pressing concerns bogging the country. The inflationary trends, lack of job opportunities, not-so-happy employment scenario, unflattering GDP figures, China border conundrum, and the increasingly violent targeting of Hindus in Bangladesh should be highlighted to pin down the Union Government. However, Rahul’s continued tirade against the PM by linking with the big businessmen seems to have run the course. People would wish to know how the leaders are faring in highlighting more pressing issues.

- The moot point to ponder over here is whether the choice of Rahul Gandhi as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha is yielding the desired results in cornering the incumbent government and also establishing a constructive opposition for the sake of the Parliamentary functioning. Keeping the treasury benches on their toes should be the primary responsibility of the opposition benches led by the LOP. What’s on offer is continued obstructions in the functioning of the Houses followed by walkouts leading to no worthwhile debates so necessary for the progress of the nation. Rahul Gandhi must change gears by embracing real issues on the ground dearer to common citizens. Otherwise, he will remain a figurehead LOP with none taking him seriously.
