- Not too long ago, Bengaluru was considered as the Garden City of India with greenery dotting the landscape far and wide. Added to the enticing greenery spread around the beautiful landscape was the salubrious weather conditions, making living here the most cherished experience. Of course, the city of Bengaluru was also considered a pensioner’s paradise as many retirees preferred to call the place their home subsequently. The hustle-bustle of a metropolitan city was still at a nascent stage just a few decades back and before the advent of information technology-driven developments. We all know how the IT industry catapulted Bengaluru into one of the most happening cities in the entire world. No one was complaining as everyone welcomed it big time.

- Soon the challenges vis-à-vis provisioning infrastructure commensurate with the fast-developing city started haunting the administration. The early years of the 21st century proved to be a path-breaking period for not only establishing Bengaluru as the Indian beacon of the IT sector but also opening doors for skilled talented professionals to further the cause of the industry through innovative applications/solutions. We are aware how Karnataka as a state made great progress on the back of the IT revolution and Bengaluru handsomely contributed to the cause in great measures. Unfortunately, unplanned urban developments, lack of vision, bane of corruption, inadequate infrastructure, and political fallacies have stymied the city’s growth greatly.
- Even though Bengaluru has witnessed unprecedented growth over the last couple of decades owing to miraculous innovations in the IT sector, the glaring lacunas in providing basic infrastructural requirements like proper commutable roads, uninterrupted power, sufficient potable water, smooth governance, no red-tapism, steady supply of skilled manpower, satisfactory law and order situation has made the city dwellers face monumental existential challenges in the last few years. The bane of corruption bogging the Indian administration at every step is known to everybody. On top of it, the continued neglect by successive governments to focus on providing clean and efficient administration here has only brought negative publicity to Bengaluru.

- The pitiable state of the city’s roads has become unmentionable miseries to every commuter. The pothole-filled roads have become the norm rather than the exception with not even the roads leading to the seats of power spared of huge craters. No sooner the monsoon season arrives, the dreadful scenario on the roads unveils in the form of extremely hazardous roads making commuting a dangerous adventure for commuters. The less said the better about the public transport system leading to millions of private vehicles clogging the roads. Little wonder traffic jams and bottlenecks have become a routine affair. Unless drastic steps to address these basic issues are initiated forthwith, the moniker of Garden City will be replaced by Garbage City sooner.
