Within the Southern film industry, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam languages have embedded themselves as a force to reckon with producing extremely popular and record-breaking box-office performances perpetually. Things have changed over the years, you see. People closely following the fortune of the entertainment industry would reminisce how Southern producers were known to churn out hit after hit by enrolling Hindi film heroes.

Of course, actors from the South too made their presence felt in the national scenario by dishing out humongous hits. Look not far from Rajinikanth and Kamal Hassan apart from the two stalwart heroines mentioned above. In line with the fast-changing times, the Southern industry has grown tremendously not only in terms of canvas, razzmatazz, popularity, star power, and reach but also in successfully establishing a presence in the overseas market too, hitherto the preserve of Hindi movies. Whatever the earlier divide has dissipated to bring the industry under one umbrella.

Term like pan-India movies have firmly established their presence so much so that Indian movie lovers are partaking in the wide bouquet of content available to relish with gay abandon. Some of the monstrous hits seen in the Indian context have originated from down South shattering the hitherto held view of how Hindi movies drove the entertainment industry. The big production houses of Bollywood are not averse to producing movies with Southern stars where the content is the king, and rightfully so. This augurs well for the Indian film industry truly representing diversity with oneness.
