  • People closely following the fortunes of the Indian political churning must be left wondering with admiration about how the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is in election mode right through the year is an understatement. None of the elections, whether a local panchayat, corporation, state assembly, byelection, or parliamentary election, is considered any less by the BJP’s electoral machinery, which is always prepared to go full throttle. The importance accorded to every election by the BJP’s strong electoral machinery is admirable and emulation-worthy. Ever since the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance failed to secure projected parliamentary seats in the last elections, the saffron brigade has stepped up its efforts with renewed vigour. Let’s dwelve further into this.

Split due to lack of leadership': BJP on recent defections in Trinamool, Shiv Sena UBT | India News

  • What ensued after the parliamentary elections has been nothing but spectacular for the BJP. Several crucial states that were expected to pose considerable challenge have been successfully outmaneuvered by the BJP’s relentless drive to tame the opposition. Wins in Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar, Delhi, Maharashtra, Assam, and West Bengal have been incredible to say the least. Especially, the win in West Bengal must rank as the icing on the cake, as the erstwhile Trinamool Congress (TMC) was in the saddle for three successive terms. Learning from the previous mistake of projecting the party as a Delhi-controlled Ram Mandir-driven campaign, the campaign led by local leaders on local issues proved to be a masterstroke for the BJP.

  • The resultant outcome is a thumping victory with an unassailable majority in the West Bengal polls, propelling the BJP to form the government for the first time. While the decimation of the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC was nothing short of a remarkable achievement, what followed in the aftermath of the BJP’s awesome triumph must have left everyone associated with the Indian political system wonderstruck. The TMC suffered a major political split following its humiliating defeat in the 2026 Assembly elections. The crisis escalated rapidly into a structural fracture as around 65 out of 80 TMC MLAs and 20 MPs rebelled against the leadership of Mamata Banerjee and her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee. This was not only unprecedented but unparalleled as well.

  • The TMC split into rival camps, with rebels gathering alongside expelled leaders to align with the BJP-led NDA, pledging support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Apparently, the deep-rooted fissure in the TMC that must have been simmering for some time came to the fore immediately after the electoral rout. While West Bengal saw such a dramatic turnaround, what unraveled in Maharashtra soon after is equally amazing as well. Six Lok Sabha MPs from the Shiv Sena (UBT) joined the ruling Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra DyCM Eknath Shinde in Mumbai. Shinde termed the mass defection as a successful completion of Operation Tiger. A key MLC too switched sides. The BJP’s expansion/accommodation modus operandi continues. Who’s to question the party?
