  • It must be mentioned with a sense of acknowledgement that ever since DK Shivakumar assumed the mantle of the state Chief Minister, a certain level of urgency, intent, and focus has been placed on introducing measures that can be safely termed citizen-friendly. Not wasting much time since assuming the highest office in the state, the CM has set about addressing some of the most basic issues plaguing the capital city of Bengaluru in particular. Mind you, the people of the state expect the incumbent CM not only to deliver goods for the betterment of all concerned, but also to follow up with a stable government that is completely attentive to the needs of common citizens, with a developmental agenda garnering total attention, including basic amenities.

  • For any government machinery to be successfully functioning, law and order alongside a conducive environment for investments should be prioritized. Needless to say, the emphasis on infrastructure requirements would also ensure a cascading effect on employment generation and job opportunities for talented youth. While the development and growth factors are addressed to strengthen the economic necessities, the attention to cultivating/encouraging soft power also assumes importance.  This is where showcasing our rich tradition, culture, heritage, and the legacy passed on from generations over millennia rightfully garners the desired attention. One such initiative by the new government deserves special mention here.

  • As Indians, we truly value how the nation fought the British occupation of nearly two centuries by a multitude of people representing various segments of society, laying their lives in an act of supreme sacrifice. As such, the nation is indebted to innumerable brave men/women by celebrating Independence Day with great fervour, devotion, and remembrance on 15th August. The whole country feels proud, joining in unison to celebrate the occasion by depicting various themes of the freedom struggle culminating in Independence for the nation brutalized for over two centuries. The Karnataka government initiated a welcome measure on the occasion to mark the day with its first-ever Freedom Habba.

  • Freedom Habba is a massive citizen-centric public carnival held on 15th August at the iconic Vidhana Soudha, the seat of the state government. Conceived to transform a routine state ceremony into an inclusive public festival, the day-long event featured a grand cultural parade, public tours of the legislative building, a children’s Mela, and live musical performances, concluding with a grand laser show and fireworks. The refreshingly welcoming initiative garnered much appreciation from the citizens and their families, with enthusiastic participation from all around. More such initiatives should be encouraged where citizens can proudly partake in the national celebrations of such significance. Well done, CM, and all the team involved in the move.
