1. Owns land more than two states!
There is no surprise that the US Army owns so much of resources and infrastructure. They own so much of land that if it were a state; then it would definitely be larger than Hawaii and Massachusetts combined! They own more than 15 odd million acres of land across the United States.
2.Specialist – The most prevalent rank!
Specialist is considered as the most prevalent rank among the Army. So, if you need anything done within the Army; then what you require the least is the specialist rank. In 2015, there are around 264,890 specialists across active-duty and reserve ranks, making up more than 25% of the US Army.
3. The Army is older than the United States itself!
14th June, 1775 is considered as the official birth of the Army. And, according to the Army History Division, George Washington was appointed as the first commander-in-chief, and he took command on 3rd July, 1775 in Boston. However, the Americans celebrate the birth of their nation as 4th July, 1776. So, the Army is older than the nation itself!
4. Almost 70% of the US Presidents served in the Army!
Of the 44 people who have served as President of the United States; 31 people had served in the military. And, 24 of them had served in the Army, or else in the state militias. President George Washington was the one who started this trend for the future presidents!
5. The second largest employer!
With more than 1 million active-duty and reserve soldiers, the US Army holds the second spot when it comes to biggest employer. Walmart tops this list with more than 2.2 million people on the payroll. In 2015, there were about 1,042,200 army personnels active in the United States.
Also, a 2011 Army fact sheet estimated the service used more than 22 gallons of fuel every day. This means that the service burns nearly 1 billion gallons of fuel every year!
