  • The US government’s decision to sell eight F-16 fighter jets at half price to Pakistan is a surprising decision..  Ostensible reason cited for the present sale is to aid Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts that woefully fail to cut any ice.  Any number of Pak backed terrorist misadventures is hard to ignore anymore.
  • By now, global community is adequately exposed to the thriving terrorist factory’s operating from Pakistan under different nomenclature. Glaring evidences of ISI-Military complicity in nurturing noxious elements disrupting the peace in South Asian region also need no further elaboration.  As such, sale of jets is yet another illustration of US turning blind eye to the concerns of global community, especially that of India’s.  No surprises if the discerning people from across the world fairly familiar with the machinations of the US-Pakistan relationship would resignedly nod in agreement.
  • pakusMost worrying aspect is terrorist disruptions are continuing unabated and India invariably finds herself at the receiving end. Each terrorist disruption usually evokes no more than routine widespread condemnation from the powers-that-be but very little action on ground in addressing the nuisance. In this backdrop, it is beyond comprehension when the US says that fighter jets would aid Pakistan in tackling terrorists.
  • terr Apparently, sale of F-16s would hugely help Pakistan in strengthening its own conventional military arsenal solely directed at India.  Pakistan’s complicity in extending patronage to terrorist networks is well documented but nonetheless deserves to be reiterated.  Don’t look afar; defining incidents like Kargil war, 26/11 Mumbai outrage, recently carried out Pathankot daredevilry are still fresh in the collective memory of all concerned.
  • iniUltimately, India should keep pressing ahead and make every effort possible to scuttle this deal from going through by tapping helpful resources like amenable Senators, Lawmakers, lobbying groups within the US who are inimical to the sale.  Additionally, it would do no harm to the cause by cultivating powerful global voices against the deal too.
