The Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk is manufactured by Sikorsky Aircraft. In 1972, Sikorsky had submitted the S-70 design for the UTTAS (United States Army’s Utility Tactical Transport Aircraft System) competition. And, in 1976, this Black Hawk was announced as the ultimate winner of the program.
The Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk is a medium-lift utility helicopter. It features four-blade rotors and is powered by twin-engines. Further, it has a long and low profile shape in order to meet the US Army’s requirement for transportation.
The Black Hawk is 19.76 meters i.e. 64 feets and 10 inches long. Two pilots along with two crew chiefs/gunners can board at a time. It has a capacity of carrying 1,200 kg of cargo internally, including 11 troops or 6 stretchers.
The UH-60 Black Hawk can have a maximum speed of around 183 mph i.e. 294 kmph. It can go as high as 19,000 feets with a magnificent rate of climbing of around 1,315 feets per minute!
